Happy Pico Day 95!

Posted by SuperPhil64 - May 1st, 2021

It's Pico Day!

I realized I hadn't done anything for Pico Day in the past few years so this year I made a bunch of stuff.

I was gonna make some pixel art, but that led to making some box art and finally this fake magazine add

for a Newgrounds line of Gameboy stuff.

Had a lot of fun making these and imagining some alternate reality where Newgrounds was made a decade earlier and could be experienced on a gameboy. It also got me to combine a bunch of the things I like to do in one piece, pixel art, making fake videogame box art and graphic design. If I knew how to code it would have been fun to make a little interactive newgrounds Gameboy experience where you get to browse the GB version of NG.

Incidentally ScepterDPinoy also made a cool Newgrounds95 piece of pixel art! check out!

Asside from that I also made a little Pico Day loop anim. I initially just roughed out a lil Pico walk to get back into flash, but wound up fleshing it out into a little Pico Day thing.

cecameron also made this cool Pico Day wedding episode of NoMan! I got to voice cardboard Tom Fulp which was tons of fun!

Anyways, that's all in Pico Day news for me!

There's so much cool stuff being made this year, gonna go watch me some PicoDay movies and binge some art!

Bro this is the one of the sickest things I’ve ever seen on any of the pico days. Brings back memories. Kudos to you man! :)

Thanks! Was loads of fun to do. Im usually always last minute with P Day stuff but this year I got started early!

I’d want to get one of these if it was actually a thing.

Talk about involved, like goddamn. The effort really shows, all of this is just amazing!

Thank you! Had to make up for missing the last few Pico Days.

seriously cool stuff. it feels really authentic! really wish i had my hands on that Newgrounds Power magazine!

Thanks! Man it be kinda dope to see a new NG magazine with art, interviews, posters and game walktroughs.

Woooah this was way more elaborate than I thought it was! You could probably trick people into thinking this was actually a real thing pretty easy. All this build...

As for the game itself maybe some day someone will actually pick up on the idea, who knows. :) Maybe possible to actually run a Flash emulator on a cartridge, and make an unofficial homebrew cart with the real game...would be fun to try but: some time when there's time...

It be pretty cool to see someone pickup this idea! I don't know if a Flash Emulator could work on the GB, but I could see something being done for the GBA maybe?

Yeaaah maybe not the original GB, but GBC or GBA seems possible. :) Do you have any experience with homebrew stuff yourself? It's pretty fascinating how much they manage with such limited hardware... but suppose it'd all have to be done from scratch then. Ruffle for example seems a bit too heavy.
